Chapter 6
Symphony
I adored this chapter, simply put. This is my favorite, I think, out of all of them. This is where I got the idea for the metaphor list. I think symbols are vital in art making, and metaphors are symbol creators. One thing standing for another. I loved his description of his portrait progression. I use symbols in all my drawings that aren't for school. I tend to want to draw what I think it should be, not what they are. When I'm not observing some one or some thing while I draw, I create a stylized, idealized version of it. I have to work on firming up my realistic drawing skills, even if it bores the ever loving crap out of me. This chapter was just...great. Great. Simply great.
I even made a metaphor (sortof) list with the help of some friends!
All the world's a stage.
The apple of my eye.
I don't feel rooted.
Women are the devil.
Men are assholes
religion is a disease
wearing your heart on your sleeve
painful truths
thoughts in chaos
You are what you eat
On cloud nine
led like a sheep to the slaughter
your eyes are a colorful planet
