CHP 8

I'm always trying to get ahead of schedule.

PLAY

Work and play are connected together, and we cannot divide the two. I tend to divide them, and it makes me miserable. My art has begun to become work, and not play, and I rarely have fun with it anymore. I have only just been getting back to the fun of it all, to playing with it. Because I realized, finally, that I possess a great and vast set of skills, and I can just have fun with them for now, instead of worrying so much. As someone who believes in the idea that a positive attitude is contagious, it hit just the right chords. I go to my new doctor because she is cheerful and nice, and laughs a lot. If she didn't make me feel comfortable and wasn't sociable, I wouldn't go to her, because going to the doctors is scary enough. I go to my dentist because he's a nice fellow, does a great job, and is easy to talk to. Having a man drill holes in your teeth feels a lot less frightening when he's talking to you about funny moments he's had with eating too many sweets himself.

As an avid gamer, this chapter definitely spoke to me, in a good way.
My reading and comprehension skills jumped into the adult range at an early age because of games.
I had fun while learning how to multi-task, strategize, and read better. Reading this, you may be noticing all my grammatical errors. I am tired. Please excuse that. But really, I am very very good at English, very good at coming up with plans of action, and analyzing. I'm just great great at that. And it's because of video games. All kids should play them. And not those kidsy leap frog ones. I mean the real, honest to God games, where you have to wrap your brain around foreign concepts and learn a whole new set of rules for a whole new world.

I loved hearing about Glucoboy, and those types of things. We really need to make things less painful and scary in the world, because reality is a harsh, cruel place. So we should try and sweeten things a bit, with a little play and a little whimsy. I think most people have just forgotten how to have the mind of a child. Which only embitters them.

Lastly, to touch on humor. People don't laugh enough now-a-days. Everyone in the city is so grumpy. Stop being politically correct and 'right' and start making people laugh! I'd kill just to see more people smile and laugh. Laughter/smiling are both infectious things. We need to spread them moooorrrreee not oppress them!
